About
Our Mission
The Community Salon will make grooming services accessible for persons of low to moderate income levels with barriers to regular hygiene care.
We will partner with human services organizations focused on empowerment of those in underserved communities and those unemployed in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
Mr. Claude Tompkins, Founder/Executive Director of The Community Salon, is a leader in his community with over 28 years of non-profit experience, and seeks to bring out “the beauty of life” in all who are served by this amazing organization!

“Why We Exist”
A fresh hairstyle cannot solve every challenge in life.
But it can restore confidence before a job interview.
It can help a cancer patient recognize themselves in the mirror again.
It can remind a parent struggling through difficult times that they are worthy of care.
It can help a child smile with confidence.
At The Community Salon, we believe dignity should never depend on someone’s financial circumstances.
That’s why we exist.

Our Pillars of Service Are:
-
Hair Care and Personal Care Services Free of Charge to Underserved Populations
-
Personal Development
-
Free Hair Styling for welfare to work interviews
-
Human Hair Wig Donations for Cancer Patients
-
Mental Health Initiative (coming soon) offering access to FREE quality mental health care

Our Vision
The Community Salon is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization geared toward helping those most in need of personal care, hair care and transitional services during their most vulnerable times. The organization serves the Maryland and DC areas, but extends its personal care activities and events to online activities, for anyone who can access them! Volunteer opportunities are available for those who share our passion, and we welcome those who also love to give back!
Certified in Domestic Violence Awareness
The goal is to help victims access support in places where they already feel safe, like hair salons and barber shops.
For many people, salons are more than just a place for a fresh wash or style. They’re spaces where clients open up about their lives, relationships and challenges.
